Perth Performance Win 2019 Outstanding Inclusion Initiative Award

Perth Performance Tennis Academy (Bullcreek TC) has won the award for the Most Outstanding Inclusion Initiative at the 2019 WA Tennis Industry Awards Night held at Optus Stadium on Friday evening. The award, which recognises clubs, coaches or individuals who go above and beyond to create accessible, welcoming and inclusive tennis opportunities for communities that may experience barriers to participation, was received on behalf of Perth Performance Tennis Academy by Head Coach, Eddy Kong.

Recognised for working with underrepresented groups, Perth Performance Tennis Academy was acknowledged for the collaboration and commitment of passionate coaches, administrators and the engagement of a qualified speech pathologist.

The academy’s Inclusion Tennis Program successfully brings tennis to people with special needs, including those with Down Syndrome, Autism and Cerebral Palsy, through the delivery of multiple weekly classes which aim to engage players of all ages and abilities.

The Inclusion Tennis Program provides opportunity for physical activity and the platform for individuals and family members to build and strengthen meaningful connections, friendships and much needed support networks.

Kong says receiving the award for the Most Outstanding Inclusion Initiative is an absolute honour and something his academy have worked incredibly hard to achieve.

"We are so fortunate to have a passionate coaching and administration team who deliver on our vision to provide inclusive tennis opportunities, and who appreciate the meaningful experience these programs provide”

“This win shows us that our plans are on the right track, and we hope to inspire other tennis clubs around the country to provide inclusive tennis programs” Mr Kong said.

More than 40 Award Nominations across 19 Award Categories were received for the 2019 WA Tennis Industry Award Night which has ran since its inception in 2002.

Tennis West CEO, Michael Roberts says the Industry Awards Night is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the sports hard working clubs, volunteers, coaches and players, congratulating all nominees and award winners on their achievements throughout the year.

“Our awards night is always such a great reminder of the contributions and achievements made by everyone involved in tennis,”

“WA continues to see growth across the sport which can only be attributed to the tireless efforts of our club volunteers and partner schools who continuously go above and beyond to ensure the delivery of our great sport,”

“Our coaches maintain their position as some of the best in the country with athletes under their direction improving consistent and outstanding results across all levels,”
